Shipping Container Condition

Understanding Container Conditions

At Platinum Port Containers, we aim to provide clear and transparent information regarding the condition of our shipping containers and equipment. Because containers are industrial products used in transportation, storage, and logistics environments, cosmetic wear and operational differences may exist depending on the container grade and usage history.

This guide explains the common condition categories customers may encounter when purchasing containers from Platinum Port Containers.

New / One Trip Containers

Condition Overview

One Trip containers are considered the highest quality containers available on the market. These units are manufactured overseas, loaded with cargo once, and then transported into the United States before resale.

Typical Features

  • Minimal wear and tear
  • Structurally excellent condition
  • Clean interior and exterior
  • Secure doors and locking mechanisms
  • Wind and watertight construction
  • Modern flooring and seals
  • Minimal dents or cosmetic imperfections

Important Notes

Although called “new,” One Trip containers may still show minor cosmetic marks, scratches, or handling wear from transportation and freight movement.

These containers are ideal for:

  • Long-term storage
  • Business operations
  • Residential projects
  • Container modifications
  • Office conversions
  • Premium applications

Cargo Worthy (CW) Containers

Condition Overview

Cargo Worthy containers are certified or considered suitable for continued cargo transport and international shipping use.

Typical Features

  • Structurally sound condition
  • Functional doors and seals
  • Wind and watertight
  • Operational flooring
  • Moderate cosmetic wear consistent with previous use

Cosmetic Expectations

Cargo Worthy units may contain:

  • Surface rust
  • Dents and scratches
  • Prior repairs or patches
  • Paint fading
  • Shipping labels or markings

These cosmetic conditions do not typically affect structural usability.

Wind & Watertight (WWT) Containers

Condition Overview

Wind & Watertight containers are designed primarily for static storage use rather than active international shipping.

Typical Features

  • Fully enclosed structure
  • Doors operational and sealable
  • Protection against outside weather conditions
  • Suitable for storage and site use

Cosmetic Expectations

WWT containers generally show more cosmetic wear than Cargo Worthy units and may include:

  • Visible dents
  • Surface corrosion
  • Repaired areas
  • Paint wear
  • Flooring discoloration

These containers remain functional for storage purposes but may not qualify for active cargo certification.

Used Containers

Condition Overview

Used containers have been previously utilized in shipping, freight, or storage operations and will show normal industrial wear.

Common Signs of Use

  • Scratches and abrasions
  • Dents and dings
  • Surface rust
  • Weather exposure
  • Previous repair marks
  • Variations in paint appearance

Used containers are sold based on structural and functional condition rather than cosmetic perfection.

As-Is / Project Grade Containers

Condition Overview

Project Grade or As-Is containers are lower-grade units typically intended for repair projects, modifications, scrap recovery, or temporary applications.

These units may include:

  • Significant dents or structural wear
  • Rust or corrosion
  • Flooring issues
  • Door alignment problems
  • Prior heavy repairs
  • Cosmetic damage

These containers may not be wind and watertight unless specifically stated.

Project Grade units are generally sold without guarantees beyond what is explicitly described at the time of sale.

Refrigerated (Reefer) Container Conditions

Reefer Unit Information

Refrigerated containers may be available in:

  • Operational condition
  • Storage-only condition
  • As-Is condition

Reefer containers may include:

  • Cosmetic wear
  • Previous repairs
  • Refrigeration runtime history
  • Electrical component wear

Operational status and testing information will be disclosed when available.

Cosmetic Condition Disclaimer

Shipping containers are industrial freight equipment and are not considered cosmetically perfect products.

Unless otherwise stated:

  • Scratches
  • Surface rust
  • Dents
  • Fading paint
  • Previous shipping labels
  • Minor repairs

are considered normal and acceptable within the container industry.

Inspection & Product Expectations

Customers are encouraged to:

  • Review product descriptions carefully
  • Request current photos when available
  • Ask questions before purchase
  • Understand the difference between cosmetic and structural condition

Container conditions are described to the best of our knowledge based on supplier information, inspections, and availability at the time of sale.
